The Year of the Ox
Most people rang in the new year on January 1. But, on February 12, Asian communities all over the world will celebrate all over again when Lunar New Year begins!
The holiday, also known as Chinese New Year, lasts for 15 days. It is a time for people in Asian countries and communities to honor their heritage. Many families do that by having special dinners and exchanging gifts.
On the Chinese calendar, each year is represented by one of 12 animals. These animals repeat every 12 years. February 12 marks the start of the Year of the Ox. People born in this year are said to be strong and calm, and to have strong opinions.
Which animal represents the year you were born?
