Customers at a New York City café called Boris and Horton dine with some special guests—their pups. The restaurant welcomes dogs, where they can enjoy a meal of their own or play with other canines.
New York is one of 17 states where dogs are allowed at restaurants. In most cases, the dogs must stay in outdoor seating areas and be on a leash. But at some eateries, like Boris and Horton, four-legged friends can roam free.
“It’s definitely super high energy,” says Logan Mikhly. She is co-owner of the café. “The dogs are social, and it’s just a fun environment.”
Many people think dogs that are trained and well-behaved should be allowed in restaurants. Mikhly says her customers are grateful to have a place to dine out with their furry friends instead of having to leave them at home alone.
But other people think it’s unsanitary for pups to be in restaurants. They argue that dogs may go to the bathroom on the floor, drool, or bark too loudly.
