Rilynn Bolen designed one of the three winning stickers in a New Hampshire contest.

Rilynn Bolen loves to draw. So when the 10-year-old from Mont Vernon, New Hampshire, learned about a statewide art contest, she couldn’t wait to enter. The contest invited fourth-graders to design a sticker that will be handed out to voters in New Hampshire.

First, Rilynn brainstormed a few ideas. She wanted her design to represent her state.

“I tried to pick stuff that people like about New Hampshire,” Rilynn explains.

Then she asked her family to vote on which of her creations they liked best. Rilynn’s final design shows a moose overlooking brightly colored trees. New Hampshire’s Mount Washington, the tallest peak in the Northeast, rises in the background.

Rilynn submitted her design last fall. It was one of more than 1,000 entries. After a few weeks, Rilynn was excited to find out she was one of three winners!

Her sticker will be handed out beginning January 23. That’s when the state’s primary elections will take place (see "5 Big Questions About Running for President"). Rilynn thinks her sticker might encourage more people to vote.

“I can’t wait until everyone in New Hampshire gets the voting stickers,” she says.
