Top Banana
Believe it or not, someone paid more than $6 million for a banana taped to a wall! It was sold on November 20 at Sotheby’s, an auction house in New York City. Created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, the artwork is called Comedian. When the banana rots, it’s replaced by a fresh one.
The buyer received a banana, duct tape, and a certificate. It gives him the right to re-create the art and call it Comedian. He now owns Cattelan’s idea.
Some people question whether a banana is really art. But others argue that sparking conversations about art is what makes Comedian so special.
